BREAKING: Kano House of Assembly Finally Wipes Out Emirates Council Law

Kano, Kano state - The Kano state house of assembly has passed the Kano emirates council law (repeal bill) 2024 after scaling the third reading.
According to Daily Trust, the house took the decision during a special sitting on Thursday, May 23.
The law has abrogated the creation of five new emirates in the state.

All offices established under the repealed law have been set aside by the new bill.
Furthermore, all district heads elevated or appointed under the repealed law are to revert to their previous positions.
Kano: Review backed by ruling NNPP chieftains
Recall that in January 2024, former Kano governor and the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, said that the issue of Kano emirates would definitely be revisited.
Former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, had split the Kano emirate into five and dethroned the then Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Following the victory of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election, Kwankwaso had said the government of Abba Kabir Yusuf would review the dethronement and balkanisation of the emirate.

Kano assembly urged to reinstate ex-Emir Sanusi
Legit.ng earlier reported that the Kano state assembly was urged to review the law establishing four additional emirates in Gaya, Rano, Karaye and Bichi and reinstate former emir Sanusi.
A group, “Yan Dangwalen Jihar Kano” (the Kano Electorate), made the appeal in a letter addressed to the speaker of the house.
